DNR’s new ‘photo ambassadors’ capturing Michigan state park beauty like never before

LANSING, MICH. — If your Instagram feed has been needing a little boost of natural beauty, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources has a few suggestions for you to follow.

This year saw the launch of the DNR’s inaugural class of state park “photo ambassadors” — 25 Michigan photographers selected to help showcase the unique and gorgeous scenery of Michigan’s state parks.

The Michigan State Parks Instagram account, @mistateparks, has been featuring the work of these photo ambassadors all year, highlighting lighthouses, woods, waterfalls, sunsets, and even night-sky snaps of this summer’s comet Neowise.

The ambassadors are all volunteers, capturing Michigan’s state park beauty in exchange for some state-park themed swag, said DNR social media coordinator Stephanie Yancer.

“We were looking for different people to become influencers for the state parks,” Yancer said. “We thought a good way to do that would be to use Instagram, since we have so

After racist viral photo, Franklin may boycott away games at Hunterdon Central

Almost two years after the Franklin boys basketball team was greeted with racial epithets and mocking gestures during an away game at Hunterdon Central, a racially offensive photo involving at least one Hunterdon Central student went viral on social media.

Now officials at the Franklin school district are seriously considering not sending Franklin’s teams to compete at Hunterdon Central.

Enough is enough.

Those were essentially the words of Franklin Schools Superintendent John Ravally after reviewing the photo that mocks the fatal knee-on-neck submission tactic that killed George Floyd last May, expressing his outrage Thursday at the district’s board of education meeting, according to a story Friday at franklinreporter.com.

Ravally strongly suggested that Franklin not send its athletic teams to away games this year to the Flemington-based school as long as this type of racially divisive behavior persists within that school community, the story said .

Ravally reportedly said at the

Twitter to investigate apparent racial bias in photo previews

The first look a Twitter user gets at a tweet might be an unintentionally racially biased one.

Twitter said Sunday that it would investigate whether the neural network that selects which part of an image to show in a photo preview favors showing the faces of white people over Black people.

The trouble started over the weekend when Twitter users posted several examples of how, in an image featuring a photo of a Black person and a photo of a white person, Twitter’s preview of the photo in the timeline more frequently displayed the white person.

The public tests got Twitter’s attention – and now the company is apparently taking action.

“Our team did test for bias before shipping the model and did not find evidence of racial or gender bias in our testing,” Liz Kelly, a member of the Twitter communications team, told Mashable. “But it’s clear from these

I’m sure you’ve heard the saying “less is more.” Achieving a minimalist image is not as complicated as it sounds, but it takes careful consideration in choosing the subject and sometimes, a little nudge in post-processing.

Minimalism is quite subjective, as most genres are, but generally, if you can manage to keep the eye focused on one subject without being distracted, then you are successful in creating a minimalist image. The following tips apply to landscape and fine art images, but the general thought is also applicable in most genres of photography.

1. Keep Things Simple

This simply means that you will have to frame a certain subject at an angle with lesser distractions or modify it in post-processing. Granted that there are
