In BTS World, Army could play manager to the biggest band in the world. Now with new game BTS Universe Story, fans can create the world themselves.
Created by Netmarble in collaboration with Big Hit Entertainment, BTS Universe Story centres around one of the more complex elements of BTS: the Bangtan Universe. An interwoven ecosystem of content, the Bangtan Universe relates a fantasy-infused fictional narrative of seven friends navigating young adulthood. It’s a coming of age story in which the seven members of BTS become teenage characters, struggling to make their way in the world.
Starting with “I Need U” and continuing through dozens of music videos, webtoons, and more, the Bangtan Universe examines subject matter such as domestic violence, suicide, the endings of relationships, depression, and above all, how the seven characters find comfort in each other. (As you can imagine, fan theories and discussions of the Butterfly Effect-esque ways of fictional Seokjin are everywhere on the internet).
BTS Universe Story is an extension of those narratives. In the trailer, the animated members of BTS reenact scenes from their old music videos, while the game allows users to play an active role in those stories, making decisions and guiding them similar to other storytelling app games.
But the real fun of BTS Universe Story is its story creation, where users can create their own BTS alternate universes with some pretty detailed editing tools (there’s also an easy editor for video-editing newbies). Want to make BTS into danger-seeking detectives? Give them superpowers? Now you can. It’s comic-book storyboarding meets fan fiction, with a Sims-y dress-up element. After you’re done with your BTS-centric masterpiece, you can publish it and share it with other Army within the app and on social media. “Their story lies in your hands,” the app’s tagline reads. “Now is the time to be part of our story.”
BTS Universe Story is now available in your preferred app store. Check out the trailer below:
