Arizona State conducted its second and third practices of preseason camp Saturday and Monday. Amid precautions for COVID-19, media members are not allowed to attend practice sessions in person. As a result, the program is capturing photos and videos for media distribution, as well as creating daily practice reports.

Additionally, here are practice notes from Saturday’s session produced by ASU’s media relations department. Monday’s was not released.

  • The tight end position was a mixed bag based on offensive formations. In short-rushing situations, sophomore Case Hatch would line up at fullback with senior John Stivers playing just off the line. Senior Curtis Hodges was frequently split out wide when he was in the game while sophomore Nolan Matthews and senior Kyle Horn played more traditional tight end roles.

  • The running back trio of junior Rachaad White and freshmen DeaMonte Trayanum and Daniyel Ngata all rotated in at first-team running back and also rotated the second-team reps. Freshman safety DJ Taylor earned second and third string reps throughout practice as well.

  • The wide receivers were again in flux throughout practice with sophomore Geordon Porter and freshman LV Bunkley-Shelton getting first-team looks as well.

  • Redshirt freshman offensive lineman Ben Scott and sophomore offensive lineman LaDarius Henderson again rotated reps at first team right tackle, while freshman offensive lineman Jacob Nunez got most of the looks at second team left guard.

  • Redshirt freshman defensive lineman Amiri Johnson, sophomore safety Willie Harts and freshman defensive lineman Omarr Norman-Lott were all limited.

  • Sophomore defensive lineman Stanley Lambert was on the field with the first team in special packages as a push-rush specialist.

  • Redshirt freshman defensive lineman Anthonie Cooper and freshman defensive lineman Joe Moore rotated at defensive end on the second unit, with Cooper seeing reps on first team toward the end of practice. He was in the backfield on several occasions throughout the day.

  • Sophomore safety Kejuan Markham saw a good amount of reps with the first team when the Sun Devils went to a dime defense look.

  • Junior defensive linemen TJ Pesefea and DJ Davidson played alongside one another on occasion with the first team, with redshirt freshman Stephon Wright as the third defensive lineman.
