Getting engaged to the person you intend on spending the rest of your life with is a significant milestone in any relationship.

Social media means couples are getting more and more creative in how they announce the big news, with some sharing elaborate videos of the special moment while others simply opt for photos with the ring on show.

But one woman who decided to get their pet dog involved in the announcement discovered the hard way that working with animals can be very unpredictable.

In a video shared online, the newly engaged fiancée can be seen sitting in front of two dogs as she tells one to sit in front of the camera to capture the photo.

The dog waits patiently at first

It’s gone in the blink of an eye

She then gently places the ring gently on the dog’s nose as it waits patiently while being told to ‘stay’ by its owner.

Unfortunately, a man’s voice seemingly triggers the dog into thinking it’s time to eat the treat balancing on its nose and within a split second it whips its head round to catch the huge rock in its mouth and chomps down.

The camera quickly pans to the floor as the owner panics and the video has gone viral after being shared to Reddit with the caption: “What could go wrong if I show off my new engagement ring?”

The post racked up plenty of comments, as some viewers hoped the dog was safe and hadn’t swallowed the ring, while another said: “Let’s do this thing that the dog recognizes as a treat…. I’m sure it will work out.”

A second wrote: “‘Oh oh ok…This when I do the trick… tada.”

A third said: “That really was a diamond in the rruuuuuuuuffff,” while another added: “The dog has expensive taste.”

Let’s hope the dog knows the ‘drop it’ trick too.
